Every trip to Easter Island is an unforgettable experience, not only because of the island and its history but also because of the wonderful people we have the chance to meet. On one of our first trips, we met Petra Klimscha, a German woman who had been living there for almost 10 years and had created a beautiful project, making handmade soaps with natural raw materials harvested in her own garden.
Our first encounter was at a lovely shop she had at the time in the center of Hanga Roa, called Rapa Nui Natural Products, where we fell in love with the things she made, and from there we have been lucky enough to cultivate a lovely friendship that has allowed us to accompany her over the years, watching how her project grew to become a reference in Rapa Nui, in Chile, and even in Europe!
In 2014, inspired by the beautiful natural paradise she calls home, Petra decided to take a big leap with the goal of creating a cosmetics brand that would highlight the natural beauty of Rapa Nui and the benefits of its natural products. Thus, Anakena® – Natural Cosmetics was born, a complete line of skincare and haircare products that contain the pure and magical essence of Easter Island and has become an ambassador of this Polynesian paradise.
The brand name, Anakena – Natural Cosmetics, is inspired by the paradisiacal Anakena beach, a wonderful bay of turquoise crystal-clear waters and white sands where, according to tradition, the first Ariki (king) of the island landed, marking the beginning of Rapa Nui’s history.
What seemed like a dream and started with just four products has turned into a comprehensive line of personal care cosmetics, all of high quality that can stand up to the big and famous international brands.
The Anakena cosmetics range continues to focus on the natural and indigenous, which is why they are made with unique raw materials such as organic guava extract, the famous Rapa Nui honey, and other special ingredients like organic seaweed extract and coconut and almond oils, all designed to revitalize the skin and hair, maintaining their natural balance.
